Wow what an awesome week!!! Tons of miracles and blessings here in Miramar!!
Well to start off, Saturday we baptized ANGEL!!! It was an awesome service. He told us he can’t wait to be a missionary like us. He actually started doing some missionary work already and brought two of his friends to his baptism! He’s doing great! We’re working on baptizing his Mom. We will see what happens.
This week it rained quite a bit which was pretty crazy. All the dirt roads turned into a muddy, ice skating rink (See picture) but luckily we didn’t fall….. too much!!! After it rains it is always soooo hot, so right now we are dying, but I do love the weather here!
I got sick again. They tell me it’s the change of weather from cold to hot so quickly but I’m doing well now and it didn’t stop me from working. Elder Navarrete is doing great. We’re having a lot of success with our ward. We’re making some changes in the ward and receiving a ton of help from them. Our ward is a lot bigger here, it’s like 120 members and there all super excited to help us!!
I’m loving the mission. It is so great being out here. I miss home a ton but I know the Lord is helping you guys and me! There are so many miracles we see everyday. One super cool one that happened this week was with a contact I did. It was super late and we were walking back to our apartment and I got the feeling to contact someone on the street. Not that’s not weird because I feel like I need to contact everyone 🙂 but I contacted this young couple. It was kind of weird contact because we were walking one way and them another and they told us they didn’t want anything and so we just went back to the house…nothing too crazy. But this week we were walking back to our apartment again the next day. It was pretty late and it get’s crazy here at night. So we were walking and someone yelled “Jovenes!” which is like teenagers. I started running and told my companion to follow me because it’s pretty crazy here. I started running but he stuck behind and it turned out to be the young couple! They said that they prayed that they would see us again and they wanted to us to come by and teach them! We taught them this week and they came to church yesterday!!!
The church is true and the Lord is on our side!! I love and miss you guys! Thank you for the package!!
Hola! Muy buenos tardes a todos!
I miss you guys so much! This week was pretty tough! The hills here really got to me. I have been sooooo tired. We walk 5 or 6 miles everyday in between appointments and after a month here I’ve been dying; hahah but it’s been great!
We didn’t get to baptize little Angelito this week. There was a stake primary activity this past Saturday so we couldn’t baptize him. We are going to baptize him this Wednesday or Saturday. We’re going by tonight to check it out and make sure everything is set. He’s a stud. He reminds me of Brady! He always wants to learn and is always stoked to go to church and to play soccer!
We found a few more people to teach this week. Since I got here I have been really pushing hard to find more people. We have been contacting a ton of people and we’re having success, but man we are killing ourselves. We literally run from appointment to appointment. LOVE THE WORK!
This week was great though and the new area is good. We did interchanges this week and I was with another American Elder and the people did not like that but in the end we ended up having a lot of success. I pretty much know my whole sector now and can lead and know where we’re going. My Spanish is fantastic. I don’t have any problems and am just learning now to expand my vocabulary
There are so many miracles here everyday, I wish I could tell them all, or even remember all of them. This week one of the coolest things that happened was we met this Mom and her son and they are from Honduras. They came up here to TJ to find work, but have been struggling. We stopped by one night and the Mom was really sick and she asked if we could say a prayer with her. Realize this was our first lesson with them so they don’t know anything about the church, but they asked if we could say a prayer for them. And so there we were outside their humble shack of a house in the middle of TJ. Police sirens, gunshots, and just ugly noises were all around us, but as soon as we started the prayer, literally everything went silent. I’m not even joking, and it was an amazing peace that I felt. I’m getting a little teary just talking about it but it was an amazing experience. After we ended everyone looked up and we all just stood there for a second and looked everyone in the eyes like “Was that real?” kind of look. And then the noises came back. I know the church is true and am happy to be serving!!!
Buenos tardes familia!! Hope you guys had an awesome 4th of July!!! I had such an awesome week! It is like paradise right now with the weather. It’s been so nice. I’m loving being a few blocks from the beach, but being so close has its good and bad! So this week I don’t have a ton to write. We literaly were in the street contacting 20-30 people every day. We would eat lunch and be in the street until we came back to the house at night. The previous companionship didn’t have a ton of investigators so we have really been focusing on finding new families to teach. It’s been super tough. We didn’t have a lot of success this week but we worked like crazy! I love being out here but man it’s tough when we don’t have anyone to teach! We do have one little kid that is SO AWESOME! His name is Angel and we’re probably going to baptise him this week. The other Elders found him and he has been coming to church for a while and is so great. He is 8 years old but has the strongest desire to learn about the Savior. We taught him a short lesson Wednesday and then we closed with a prayer. After the prayer he said “that’s all you got for me today?! I want to learn more!” HA so we taught him two more lessons. One of the lessons was the Plan of Salvation which is huge and hard to keep up and he stopped us mid-way thru the lesson and told us his head was starting to hurt from all the doctrine. HA love that kid! I’m almost half way done with the Book of Mormon in Spanish for my first time. I had an interview with the Presidente this week and he said my Spanish is amazing. I’m stoked how much I have learned in these past few months with my great companions. I’ve been super blessed to learn fast and have patient Elders who want to help. I wish I could tell you guys all that’s going on here! There are miracles every day and the Lord is definitely on our side. We have been getting rejected pretty hard for these past two weeks and its been rough, but I always find comfort in the scriptures and that this is the true church of Jesus Christ! I’m so grateful for what the gospel has given me! I hope you guys have an awesome week! EXITO! Elder Woods
