Week #47 – An opposition in all things- November 23rd, 2015

So this is the second ward I have been in for more than a month and a half. It’s kind of funny, the longer you are in the ward, the more the members start to love you. And the more they start to love you, the more food they give you….. I’m definitely not getting any skinnier!!

This week was pretty basic. We didn’t get a chance to go to the temple, we had a ton of plans but all of our investigators backed out like last minute. It was pretty rough. We did have a lot of success with our investigators though, but then yesterday none of them came to church 😦   That’s always rough because it puts us back for baptisms a few weeks. The temple has been a great blessing for everyone, but man there has been a lot of opposition this month.

We have one investigator his name is R**. I mentioned a little bit about him last week. R** and his girlfriend aren’t married so we’re in the process of working that out. Last Sunday night we taught the law of chastity and it was a super spiritual lesson. When we came back Wednesday they had read the pamphlet and told us they are ready to get married. Super weird process helping someone make the decision to get married. Definitely experiences that i will never forget. HA it is just awkward because I have no experience whatsoever with marriage and here I am helping bros put a ring on it. Pretty intense.

We also had a New Missionaries training meeting in TJ. This is a meeting where they verify the progress of my little bro Elder Bracho. He is  working so hard, I love it. But pretty amazing what happened that day… ..

So we were receiving some instruction, and one of the Assistants asked “So of the new missionaries, who thinks they will be able to train after your done training??” A few missionaries stood up, like 7 out of about 30, one of which was Elder Bracho. And so the Assistant proceeded to ask everyone who stood up what their trainer is doing to make them feel ready to train. I was thinking “Oh shoot, what is my companion going to say!!” Everyone else went and said some pretty sweet things “my comps working hard, he’s obedient, he teaches me really well ect.” My companion just happened to be the last person called on. When the Assistant got to him, Elder Bracho kind of paused for a second… I was so nervous for him, HA I didn’t know what he was going to say. Like 60-70 missioners were there and the Mission President and everyone, so I was nervous. So he paused, and mas o menos what he said was “Well… out of all the things that have been said, most of them were pretty good, and I imagine you guys have pretty good trainers too. But my companion is the best. He has done every single thing all of you just said and more. But most importantly he has given me the example in everything and truly how to love the people and serve as a disciple of Jesus Christ.” He said some more sweet stuff but I don’t want to just like brag about myself. But after that he sat down and it was just dead silent. The President was just looking over at us. We sat there for like 30 seconds, then he just said “that’s what we want for everyone”

Man I was tearing up! It was such a cool experience. Definitely the highlight of my week. I’m so glad I can give that example to my Companion. It was fantastic.

Well that’s all for this week!!! We looked around for a place that we could send pictures and we found one so I’m going to send some!!! I MISS YOU GUYS!!!

Week #46 – It’s Open! – November 16th, 2015

THE TEMPLE IS OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!

I never thought this day would come. The Temple opened up Friday and wow, the spirit has been so strong just everywhere down here. I’m loving it.

We had the amazing opportunity to go Saturday with our ward!! We rented a bus and made the 30 minute bus trip from Rosarito to TJ and went to see the temple. We brought a total of seven investigators on the bus too, which is the most important. The bus ride was crazy. We were just trying to fit as many people as we could so I sat in the aisle on a bucket. There were like six people per seat and it was a party. Such an amazing spirit was with us too.

When we got there we got the awesome chance to take a bunch of investigators through. One of our investigators is this really old lady named A**. She is super old and was really nervous about going but I told her I would be there every step of the way to make sure she didn’t fall. So she came and LOVED IT. She said she felt kind of sick getting ready but once she got on the bus she said that all just went away.

The next investigator is named R**. He is living with a member and we are teaching him right now. He was feeling pretty good about baptism before the temple, but before we went in my companion told him about the spirit he was going to feel when we went into the celestial room. These last two times I’ve gone into the temple I always walk in the back because I just start crying like a baby. So I was in the back and my companion and R** were in the middle of our group. I saw R** whispering to my companion frequently throughout the tour and I didn’t know what they were saying. When we got out Elder Bracho pulled me aside and told me R** was just breaking down in the temple and said he felt so much peace and it was so great to be there. We went with him yesterday and I asked him if he knew the church was true and he kind of paused a second, and he said, “I had doubts before going to the temple, but after I went into the celestial room I felt it. I know its true.”  🙂

Another cool experience, we were waiting outside the temple to leave and we walked by this american lady trying to talk to a security guard in English. Ha the security guard obviously had no clue what she was saying so I stepped in and helped. She told me she had gone through the temple the day before and when she went home that night she had been pondering and praying all night about the things she saw. She came back searching for the missionaries to go to here hotel and teach her. It was sooooo COOL! She was from New Mexico and heard about the temple so she popped down to see it. Her words to me were “I want the missionaries to come over and tell me how I can be a Mormon” HA so cool.

That’s just a few of all the sweet things that have been going on!!! It’s so awesome to be here right now. There are some pictures of the temple that are on the church website that are pretty sweet that you guys got to check out!!

Everything’s good! We’re working hard! I hope everything is well at home!!!

Week #45 – Tijuana Temple – November 10th, 2015

tijuana temple

I GOT TO GO TO THE TEMPLE YESTERDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT!!! I’m still in shock. It all happened so fast but I got to go over to TJ yesterday and walk thru the Temple!! It was so awesome!! Yesterday at church my District Leader came up to me and said, “Cancel everything you got! If you bring investigators you can go to the temple tonight.” Wow, so we dropped everything and started searching for an investigator who wanted to come!! Man we were freaking out, we almost didn’t go to eat because we were just searching for SOMEONE who could go. The whole time I just had a feeling we should just go to lunch and the Lord would prepare the way. I said a prayer that I could go right when I found out I could go. After searching, I felt like I wasn’t showing my faith by looking so hard! So after many failed calls, we just went to lunch and sure enough, a sisters daughter was there, who isn’t a member, and we told her we could come along if they brought us. SO WE WENT! definitely an answer to prayer and a lesson that I needed to trust more in my Heavenly Father. I also heard while we were there that we, as missionaries, will be able to go again in the next few weeks, so we will see what happens.

THE TEMPLE IS AMAZING!!!!!! So beautiful inside, it was such a blessing to be able to walk through. Its suuuuuccccchhhhh a great temple. We also saw a few  of the Seventies walking around. They were with President Garcia and getting ready for the Temple opening this weekend. So cool!!

This week was great! A little less stressful than the last. Elder Bracho is doing great and is learing really quick. We found thirteen new people to teach this week! They are all super cool too. Seven of our investigators came to church yesterday. We’re working hard to get some baptisms here soon.

I definitely felt so strengthened though this entire week. I don’t know if you guys were praying for me or what but the lord answered so many of my prayers. Every time I prayed for something I got the help that I needed.

Sunday, like I said, we had 7 people at church, which was so great! A few of them were a family we contacted in the street on Saturday night and we talked with them for a while and invited them to church. When we saw them on the street it was just a man and his wife. But Sunday, when they came to church, it was them and their three kids!! I thought it was so cool, but even better, was after sacrament, Elder Bracho came up to me crying. He told me he had been personally praying all week that we could find a family of five that we could start to teach……. Super powerful.

Its getting a little cold here. We were wearing sweaters part of the week. Everything is great! Full swing for the temple dedication which starts this Friday! Our ward is going Saturday morning but who knows if we will be able to go with them. It should be good though!

I MISS YOU GUYS SO MUCH!! Going into the sealing room was so cool! Just a reminder of the great blessing I have to be sealed together with my family! I’m so blessed to have that in my life! Families really can be together forever! I know it.

Week #44 – Burning Hot November – November 2nd, 2015

Hello everyone!!!!

How are you guys doing? How was Halloween? I was definitely missing you guys Saturday night! We had to be in the house at 6 PM so we just hung out in the house for a few hours and I was thinking about you guys a ton!!!

BUT MAN!!! What a week… First week with Elder Bracho, fresh out of the CCM. He is a stud, and I’m trying to work his fresh new shoes right off his feet!!

We hit it hard this week now that we have shaved off the old meat (long live Elder Morgan!!) We went to work again with a fresh energy and a fresh start. We put in a hard week of work that gave us a ton of results. We had six people come to church yesterday!!! That was super great. On Saturday we built a house! I’m sorry but I forgot my camera, but all day Saturday we built a house! It was so cool. It was super fun to learn and also do some quality service. We found 11 new people to teach this week and things are looking good for the month of December!!

Elder Bracho is doing great as well. He is working hard. He already finished college in Paraguay and he is 25 years old! He is a really hard worker and I love him a ton. It’s been great being able to teach a new missionary and help them get on their feet as well as pushing myself personally by leading the work. I’m loving the opportunity and learning tons!!

I tried to send a ton of pictures from the past few weeks. I finally found a computer that works!! HAHA but some good times with Elder Morgan, as well as making pinatas, making ice cream, SEEING THE CAMELS, and some other fun adventures.

Well I hope you guys have an awesome week!! Things are great down here and it has been sooo hot, but were doing great!!!
