Wooooow this was a long week!!
Pictures!! Starting top left: My District in Ensenada, Tostilocos (so good! made with raw pig skins chopped up), The baptism of Iv**!, Elder Winsor and I on a dock next to the ocean, Elder Winsor’s birthday cake with good friends.
We’re struggling right now as a mission. Normally we baptize about 300 new members each month. This month, we’re on pace for about 50, so we’ve been working hard, really focusing on what we can do to improve. Elder Winsor and I were challenged by our Leaders to lead by example in baptisms, and firmly reminded that we weren’t doing as well as we can. AHH, it was rough!
The work has been a little harder here in Ensenada. We have been finding and teaching a lot of people every week but we struggle in getting them to progress. On the bright side, Iv** came and worked with us teaching all day Friday and it was soooo sweeeeet!!! We were really focused on building up his testimony and getting him phsyched to go on a mission. He came with us and shared his testimony in the discussions and spoke about how much he really has been loving the church. On Sunday, he got ordained to be a Priest! Pretty soon he should be blessing the sacrament! Ha ha, and all the girls are diggin him in the ward so I think he found a girlfriend which we have thought is good for getting him to go, but if something happens…. Bad news… SO we need to work on that. He is great!
It’s been really hot here, hotter than in years past, it was like 80-85 parts of the week. I got my tan rolling again, hahaha!
It was Elder Winsors’ birthday yesterday!! We knocked doors all week inviting people to his party Sunday morning at 9 am but not too many showed up… hahaha!!
The District is doing well! I’m going to get to do some baptism interviews this week which should be great! That has been one of my favorite things about being a District Leader is being able to do the interviews and really help the work here in Ensenada. I love the work and pray that we can find more people!!!
I love you guys tons! Hope you are enjoying life! LES amo y Les extañno!!!
Hey Family! Another great week here in Ensenada! I’m sorry, but I still can’t find a reliable computer. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to send any pictures these last few weeks. Not a lot of options here.
I’m writing late because we have had some money troubles and didn’t have enough money to buy time for the computer. Some American people lent us some money so were good to go for just a short update. But anyway this week was fantastic! I have felt a ton of pressure though. The work is pretty intense. It’s insane. But it’s all good as we’re working hard and trying to be as obedient as we can.
The baptism this week was sweet. I got the honor to confirm Iv** which was great. It’s amazing going up in front of a Mexican congregation and confirming someone in Spanish. His parents, who aren’t members, came and I’m hoping they felt the spirit so we can start teaching them too.
I’ve been hitting it hard on the weights everyday at 5:30. I have been able to do a lot of cardio, I have a bar with 30 pounds on each side. I have been doing the workouts you sent me Dad!!
The District is doing great! I did interchanges with one Elder this week and it went well. We found some new people for them to teach which was good. I’m still working on the vision of everyone though. I’ve been focusing to really help the District to have a ton of hope and that with faith they can find people to teach.
Thanks so much for all of your help! I love you guys tons! I hope you have an awesome week! I’m seeing miracles here in Enseanda thanks to you guys!
Love, Elder Woods
HELLO MY FAMILY!!!!
I’m so sorry, these last three weeks have gone by so, so, so fast!! These past few weeks I have been dedicating a ton of time to writing the Mission President during the hour we have to email that I haven’t had a lot of time to write letters home!! I have really been trying hard to dedicate so much time to help the District.
Ensenada! It’s so beautiful here. Our whole sector is on the beach. There are 4 colleges in our sector so a lot of college kids. THERE ARE A TON OF HILLS, just like TJ again. Its been soooo hot to. Its feels like summer.
The work here is a little slower. We have been GRINDING though. Honestly with being a Disrtict Leader it has bumped up my work level even more to be an example! My companion Elder Winsor is a stud and we work so well together. He is really diligent and is always open to try crazy ideas or something so that we can baptize more.
Speaking of baptisms… We are baptizing this week!! Sorry that I haven’t said anything. We were going to baptize a couple but they fell through. We have the goal to go to the temple this month so we are hitting it hard. The guy we’re going to baptize, his name is Iv**, he is 16 years old, and is really progressing well and super interested in improving his life. We found him the first week we were here and now were going to baptize him! The main reason why he has been progressing so well is because this ward is really good, and they are really focused on helping the missionaries grow the ward. Just two years ago it was a branch, and we are actually still meeting in the Prayer House. It isn’t a full chapel. The Stake promised that if they worked hard and got the attendance up, that they would build a chapel. So they are all super pumped!! We have about 100 people attend every Sunday which is really good. The ward is bigger than Constituition Ward in TJ and some of my other wards I’ve served, but its weird because we meet in just a really big house. It’s cool though barbecue the house has A SOCCER GOAL!!! Like a full side FIFA one, right in the house!! Me and Elder Winsor have been waking up early for the past few weeks at 5:30 and have been working out hard. We have been going down to the church and shooting around which has been really nice and it really helps us to work a lot harder.
The house we are in is easily one of the best I’ve lived in too. It’s sweet. Yesterday some lady flipped out on me and Elder Winsor because we forgot to take out the rent… But we were laughing because in the “Spanish for missionary books” the swear words aren’t in there… hahah so we were just laughing.
Last Monday we went to the famous Bufadora with some members. It was awesome!!
I’m doing great! I’m loving everything about Ensenada. It’s such a great time of my mission. Time is FLYING again. But I miss you guys so much!! HAVE AN AWESOME WEEK!!! Hopefully you guys have an awesome Valentines Day and birthday. Spoil Mom a ton!!
LES AMO MUCHISIMO!!!!
I’m sorry, I don’t have a ton of time today. I’m also sorry to say that the computers that we use here are very slow and don’t allow me to upload any pictures. It might be awhile until I can find somewhere new to write from. I will keep trying!
The District is good! I did a baptism interview this week for the first time. It was really great! I met with a man that has had a lot of struggles with the Word of Wisdom. It was an honor, being so young, to really help this guy out. It’s crazy to think how much experience and maturity you gain being on a mission. I realize now how immature I was with the teachings of the church….just very inexperienced. Now I have the ability to help people who are in there 40’s and 50’s make changes that have been their biggest problems. Super cool!
There are some great chapters in the Book of Mormon that I’m reading right now. Right now I’m really trying to build upon my testimony of the Book of Morman. I started reading a page, then I pray, then another page, another prayer, and so on, just asking to strengthen my testimony. It’s helped a ton and I’ve increased my testimony.
MISS YOU TONS!! Thanks for everything
